In this case, the name says it all – this district is full of adventure for the whole family. Located in northeast OKC at the crossroads of I-35 and I-44, the Adventure District is home to many can’t-miss museums and attractions. You’ll find plenty of ways to entertain the whole family, plus indoor and outdoor experiences that pack year-round fun. You won’t believe how many different types of memorable activities you’ll find all within a two-mile radius.
From the can’t-miss National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, to the rush of live horse-racing at Remington Park Racing Casino, to visiting Oklahoma City’s wildest residents at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens, there’s plenty of fun for the young and young at heart.
Located in the southwest section of the Oklahoma City Zoo, Sanctuary Asia opened August 2018 and extends the Asian elephant herd’s existing habitat as well creates new habitats for red pandas, Indian rhinos, langurs, Komodo dragons, Tanuki (raccoon dog) and cassowary birds. The expansion also includes a two-story restaurant with a view into the elephant, rhino and Komodo dragon habitats plus a splash zone in the courtyard for children to experience during the warmer months.
Go all in with the OKC Zoo's Wild Encounters experiences. Get a behind-the-scenes look with an animal caretaker to get an up close look at some of the Zoo's amazing animals.
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is a trove of galleries and exhibits that showcase the American West. New in 2020 is Liichokoshkomo’, an outdoor learn-and-play area featuring more than 100,000 square feet of hands-on learning experiences for families, including replicas of an Intertribal Village and Western structures, activities and more.
In addition to its world-class art and interactive exhibits, this museum is also home to historical and pop culture artifacts, cowboy gear, firearms and a great gift shop.
Kids of all ages will love exploring eight acres of hands-on science experiences with thousands of space, aviation and cultural artifacts at Science Museum Oklahoma. This is especially true in their new "CurioCity" exhibit, a 20,000-square-foot area of discovery that uses interactive devices and creative settings to encourage learning through play.
